How the machine guesses
After each word it ranks all 303 pages by the cosine between your list of words and the page's TF-IDF vector (tf = count / words on the page, idf = ln(303 / pages with the word), unit length): the sum of the page's weight for each of your words, divided by √(words typed). A word on every page weighs nothing; a word on two pages weighs a lot on both. A name is a word capitalised in the middle of sentences or in a page title, the rule from the week 6 post. Say one with names banned and it is a strike: it counts as a word used and the machine ignores it. A word that fewer than two pages use is unknown to the machine, and costs you nothing. Win by getting the target to number one; points are 11 minus the words you used, at least 1. You have 12.
WHAT THE MACHINE THINKS
Type a word. The pages re-rank after every one.
